Over the past few years, the Smithsonian Channel has run a documentary series entitled “Combat Ships.” The first season was in 2018 and the second series aired in 2020. Tonight will be the start of Season 3 and will feature an interview with Captain Paul Rinn, USN(Ret). and past CO of USS SAMUEL B ROBERTS (FFG-58). The opening episode will include segments on the development of the FFG 7 class frigates. Episode 4 on 20 March entitled “Gulf Warriors” will focus on their employment in the Persian Gulf during Operations Earnest Will and Praying Mantis in the late 1980s. Captain Jim McTigue, USN(Ret), past CO, USS SIMPSON (FFG-56), will also be featured.
Both Paul and Jim are SNA Life Members so this will a great opportunity to get their impressions of actions involving FFG-7 Class ships.
