In case you missed it, this year’s recipient of the Delbert D. Black Leadership Award is Command Master Chief Samira McBride of USS Gonzalez (DDG-66). The U.S. Navy Memorial will present a special broadcast on Friday, December 18th at 1pm EST in her honor.

1. The award dates back to 2008 and was named for the first Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy
2. CMC Samira McBride is orginally from Chad, Africa
3. She has 4 siblings, 3 who are currently in the service
4. She was also selected as the Pacific Fleet Sea Sailor of the Year in 2010 5. She has been critical to every success of USS Gonzalez
