Each year, the United States Navy Memorial recognizes Sea Service veterans who have excelled with distinction in their respective careers during or after their service with the Lone Sailor Award. The 2020 Lone Sailor Awards Program will honor our 26th Secretary of Defense, General James Mattis, USMC (Ret), and posthumously, Navy veteran and iconic singer-songwriter, Mr. Bill Withers.
